Shawn Spencer (James Roday, "Miss Match") grew up with a police officer (Corbin Bernsen) for a father; during his formative years, Shawn's pop taught him how to "read" a scene with uncanny accuracy -- noting the kind of details even fellow USA gumshoe Adrian Monk might miss. When a now-adult Shawn is accused of committing a crime he actually helped the police solve -- by calling in a tip -- he talks his way out of trouble by convincing the cops that he's a psychic. With the reluctant assistance of best friend Gus (Dule Hill, late of "The West Wing"), Shawn opens a detective agency and starts solving cases for the skeptical local law enforcement.
